Key milestones for this exciting project

Autumn 2019 – Demolition of three of the existing stadium stands following planning permission
Winter 2019/2020 – Planning approval for the redevelopment of the stadium and the main contractor appointed
Spring 2020 – Preparations for start of construction begin with the installation of hoarding and signs
Summer 2020 – Construction work started
Spring and summer 2021 – New roof and walling for stand takes shape
Winter 2021 – Completion of stadium track and new seating
Spring 2022 – Completion date
Summer 2022 - Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games
Winter 2022 to spring 2023 – Phased reopening of stadium to public

July to August 2023 - Stadium legacy and Perry Park enhancement works public consultation
August 2023 - Stadium legacy and Perry Park enhancement redesign following public consultation feedback
September 2023 – Section 114 notice and spend control measures resulted in project being temporarily suspended
November 2023 – Spend control approval received for Stadium legacy and Perry Park enhancement with reduced budget
November 2023 to January 2024 - project team remobilised
January 2024 – Project redesign to meet new budget
April 2024 - Re-engagement with stakeholders on direction of Perry Park enhancements to include new play area
April 2024 - Update BeHeard
May 2024 – Submit planning application for external areas
Summer 2024 – Commence phase one of park works, including:
- park reinstatement works
- removal of temporary hoardings
- signage and waymarking improvements
- replacement play area construction and park activation
- southern embankment works
- entrance, vehicular control and stadium fencing works
Autumn 2024 - Commence Phase Two works, including:
- athletes road resurfacing
- High Performance Centre car park repair works
- northern plaza fencing and landscaping works
- transport mall drainage works
- throw cages protective fencing works
Spring 2025 - External works project completion
