Transitional relief

Transitional relief limits how much your bill can change each year because of the business rates revaluation.

Normally, you’ll get transitional relief if your rates go up or down by more than a certain amount. This is so that changes to your bills happen gradually.

For the 2023 to 2024 tax year, the rules for transitional relief have changed. You’ll get transitional relief if your rates go up by more than a certain amount. You will not get transitional relief if your rates go down. This is so you get the benefit of a reduction in rates faster.
