Retail, leisure and hospitality discount

You could qualify for business rates relief if your business is mainly used as a:

  • shop
  • restaurant, bar, cafe or pub
  • cinema
  • music venue
  • hospitality or leisure business – for example, a gym, hotel or spa

What you’ll get

If you’re eligible, you can get 75% off your business rates bill for the 2024 to 2025 tax year.

The amount of relief you can get per business is limited by subsidy control rules. These limit the maximum of relief you can get. The thresholds are:

  • £110,000 each year
  • £315,000 over a three-year period – the current and previous two financial years

How to apply

You do not need to apply. If you’re eligible, you will automatically get the discount on your business rates bill.

If you have not received this relief and you think you are eligible, you can apply for retail, leisure and hospitality relief online.

We will review your application, and if you’re eligible we’ll apply the discount and send you a new bill.

If you’ve received too much or you want to opt out

You must tell us if you’ve received more than the maximum amount of retail, hospitality and leisure relief.

This means you've received more than the 'subsidy control thresholds' for relief. These thresholds are:

  • £110,000 each year
  • £315,000 over a three-year period – the current and previous two financial years

You can also tell us you want to opt out.
