Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Plan 'made'
Following a successful referendum held on Thursday 13 July 2023, the Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Plan has been 'made' and now forms part of the statutory development plan for determining planning applications within the neighbourhood area.

Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Plan timeline
2023
July 2023
On Thursday 13 July 2023, two referendums relating to the adoption of the Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Plan were held. More than half in both referendums voted in favour of the plan.
For the residential referendum, 93.68% voted in favour of the plan and for the business referendum, 58.82% voted in favour of the plan.
This means the JQNP is now part of the Birmingham statutory development plan.
February 2023
In February 2023, Birmingham City Council and the Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Forum received the Examiner’s report on the JQ Neighbourhood plan. The report concluded that subject to a series of modifications, the JQ Neighbourhood Plan met the basic conditions and should proceed to a referendum.
2022
December 2022
The Regulation 16 consultation on the Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Plan ran for a period of 8 weeks between 25 July 2022 and 15 September 2022.

All responses received by the Council during this consultation period will be sent to the Independent Examiner, when they are appointed. The Examiner will consider them during his examination of the Neighbourhood Plan and its supporting documentation.
In November 2022, the Council appointed Mr Timothy Jones, barrister at No.5 Chambers, to undertake the Examination on the Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Plan.
July 2022
From July 2022 to September 2022, the council plan to launch a statutory public consultation on the final Neighbourhood Plan.
May 2022
In May 2022, the Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Forum submitted the final plan and supporting documents to the council, meeting all requirements for a consultation to start.
2020
From July 2020 to September 2020, the Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Plan pre-submission consultation took place.
2019
The JQDTNPF's designation expired in April 2019.
The Jewellery Quarter Development Trust (JQDT) made an application to redesignate the neighbourhood forum and neighbourhood area.
In October 2019, the JQDTNPF and associated neighbourhood planning area were formally designated.
2015
The JQDTNPF began preparing a Neighbourhood Development Plan document.
2014
An application was made to designate a Neighbourhood Forum. This application was made public for six weeks up to 5 March 2014.
Comments made regarding the application were taken into account, and the boundary area was changed to include the Crimean War Gardens on Summer Hill Terrace.
The council formally designated the Jewellery Quarter Development Trust Neighbourhood Planning Forum (JQDTNPF).
