Castle Vale
In 2020, we introduced various measures to make it easier for people to walk and cycle more as the city emerged from the national lockdown. This included two 'modal filters' in Castle Vale, on Yatesbury Avenue and Cosford Crescent, which prevent motorised vehicles (cars etc.) from driving through a section of road but still allows people to pass through on foot or by bike.
These were introduced on a temporary, experimental basis, and the time allowed for the experiment is coming to an end.
We remain committed to reducing car trips in Birmingham and encourage people to choose active travel for their short journeys, but have decided that modal filters in these locations are not currently the best way to do this, and therefore we have removed them.
