Winter vaccines

In this webinar we will be discussing vaccines, how they work, why they’re important during the winter months. We will also explain which vaccines are currently being offered to Birmingham residents and how to book a vaccination.
Flu (influenza)
Each year the NHS prepares for the unpredictability of flu. For most healthy people, flu is an unpleasant but usually self-limiting disease with recovery generally within a week.
However, there is a particular risk of severe illness from catching or spreading flu for:
- older people (65 and over)
- Those living in long-stay residential care
- pregnant women
- the very young
- carers and those living with immunosuppressed people
- those who are immunosuppressed, disabled or living with long-term health conditions.
It's important to prevent the flu in high-risk individuals through having the flu vaccine.
Covid-19
Additionally, this winter, the NHS is rolling out a new round of Covid-19 vaccinations for the most vulnerable, including who is:
- aged 65 or over
- aged 16 or over and is a carer, either paid or unpaid
- living in a care home for adults
- a frontline health and social care worker
- the immunocompromised, disabled people and/or living with long-term health conditions
- aged 12 or over and living with someone with a weakened immune system
Protect yourself and others
In this webinar we will also explain the importance of having both vaccinations for the most vulnerable, and the importance of childhood immunisations such as MMR.
We ask you as community leaders to encourage members in your community to take up the offer of the vaccines.
