Benefits to your community
This regeneration is much more than building high quality and much needed housing in Perry Barr. As a core part of Perry Barr's regeneration, we want to deliver a whole host of community and economic activities that will benefit local people now and in the future.
In support of this aim, as part of the regeneration, we have worked with partner contractors to deliver packages of wider benefits that bring social value and help strengthen communities. As well as delivering community projects and engaging with schools, we have also provided opportunities for local residents, surpassing targets set in phase one, including (by April 2023):
- creating 645 new jobs for local people, and 97 apprenticeships
- supporting over 1,354 people through training placements and providing over 41,545 work experience hours.
In addition, our partners have pledged to support local businesses by buying locally. For this scheme, £275 million, approximately 84% of the contractor's spend, has gone to local small to medium sized businesses.

Single use plastic bottle campaign
This involved extensive engagement with local schools involving young people in a campaign to raise awareness about the need to reduce the use of single use plastic bottles. As a result, a Primary Schools resource book has been published for wider use and 7 students from B-Met College also created hoarding designs to promote the theme of reducing the use of 'Single use Plastics'.
Eden Boys School outdoor reflection area
Through the Lendlease Foundation, employees working on this scheme, volunteered their time to create an outdoor reflection space for Eden Boys School. The volunteers worked with students at the school to clear an area for an outdoor refection space.
This included planting a border, with plants supplied by Hirons Nursery in Perry Barr, with the next stage seeing installation of an outdoor canopy that will provide all year round protection for the area and create an outdoor learning space.
Perry Barr street naming competition
To prepare Perry Barr Residential Scheme homes prior to completion, in partnership with the contractor Birmingham City Council ran a competition to name the new streets. This resulted in six new names being selected based on the theme of cohesion and shared values.
