Overview

Castle Vale was originally known as Berwood and was historically a swampy forest. It was first developed in the 17th century and became associated with aviation in the 20th century.

It became known for its neglected housing and social deprivation from the 1970s, and was regenerated as part of a targeted initiative led by the Castle Vale Housing Action Trust (CVHAT)
