Overview

Glebe Farm and Lea Village were once part of the ancient parish of Yardley. The area was covered by the Forest of Arden, which was gradually cleared so that the land could be farmed. The word ‘Lea’ comes from the old English word ‘Leah’ which means a woodland clearing.

During the Middle Ages an outcrop of red sandstone was visible at Glebe Farm, unusual in an area which lies predominantly on heavy clay.
