Midland Metro extension

The Birmingham Eastside extension will bring Metro services to Digbeth and serve the High Speed 2 station at Curzon Street.

The route will run from Bull Street and terminate at a new stop at High Street Deritend, with four new stops along the stretch. We will build a temporary stop outside the Clayton Hotel, allowing passengers to use this section of the route by 2025 or 2026.

The extension is part of the improvements to Digbeth High Street. The area has already seen major improvements, including new plants, paving, and kerbing. These changes aim to make the area more attractive, accessible, and supportive of future business investment.

Current works

Midland Metro Alliance, working on behalf of Transport for West Midlands (TFWM), has completed the main construction, including urban realm improvements, along Lower Bull Street and Digbeth High Street.

Construction has now moved on to the next stage along Moor Street Queensway. These works will extend the track in Lower Bull Street further through Albert Street and are expected to be completed in autumn 2024.
