Approved applications
Most HMO licences are valid for up to five years.
We may grant a licence for a shorter period if:
- we are concerned about how the property is managed
- the property has a history of problems with anti-social behaviour
- we have not confirmed the planning status of the property
Late applications
We may issue a shorter licence if you apply late.
For example - if you apply for a licence six months after you let out the property, we may give you a licence for four years and six months.
In some circumstances, we may also apply licence conditions that require you to:
- restrict the use or occupation of parts of the HMO
- take steps to deal with anti-social behaviour
- improve the condition or contents of the property
- carry out improvements to make the property suitable for the number of people who will live there
