Application times

It usually takes around 56 days to process an application as long as you have sent us all the information and documents we have asked for.

It may take longer if we need to inspect the property or make other checks.

We will reject any application for an HMO licence that doesn’t meet the legal requirements.

You should not rent out your HMO until it is licensed. If you have not heard from us within 28 days of sending us your application, email us at prs@birmingham.gov.uk

Supported accommodation

We will always inspect properties used for supported accommodation - sometimes known as hostels.

This means the HMO process for supported accommodation may take longer than eight weeks.
