Adults' health and fizzy drinks

It's the first week of Fizz Free February and the focus this week is on adults' health.

We often focus on the effects of sugar sweetened soft drink on our children and young people, but fizzy drinks have just an impact on adult health. Fizzy drinks can lead to poor oral health, obesity, and increases the risk of developing long-term health conditions such as diabetes and even cancer.

It is important that adults act, as the harm caused by sugary fizzy drinks can be much harder to reverse as you age.

Supporting adults to be healthy helps them achieve their potential and thrive, and we know that when parents make a change it really helps their children also live healthier lives.

The health of working age adults in Birmingham is key to the stability our city and shaping the future for our next generation. Therefore, the focus this week is on adults health.

We have put together a slide set of facts to help understand and explore the impact of fizzy drinks on adults' health.

We know that’s not always easy to engage children with this kind of campaign, so we’ve created some additional resources to help parents, grandparents, teachers and carers get children involved in going fizz free this month and this week they have an adult’s theme, with some maths puzzles for slightly older children.

Also, since it is adults' health week there are even more challenging activities for adults to get involved and have some fun.

There are also lots of free resources at One You for adults.
