Packs for children with additional needs

These packs are for children with specific needs and should be gifted in place of the Baby or Early Years pack as required.

We have limited numbers and will need a recommendation from your health or childcare professional or teacher before gifting these packs out to you.

If your child has not had the appropriate pack, check with your nursery or childminder.

Nurseries, childminders and home educators can place orders online when they receive notification from us at Bookstart Birmingham, the Early Years Management Information System and the partners we work with – see section 6 for further information.

Bookshine for children who are deaf or hearing impaired

Bookshine Baby is for 0 to 2 year olds, and Bookshine Toddler is for 3 to 4 year olds.

Each pack has two books, a rhyme place mat (with babies signing) and guidance around sharing books. The toddler pack also includes a bookmark showing British Sign Language

Booktouch for children who are blind or partially sighted

As with Bookshine, there is a pack for 0 to 2 year olds and 3 to 4 year olds

Each pack has two touch-and-feel books and guidance around sharing books with blind and partially sighted children.

Bookstart Star for children with conditions affecting their fine motor skills

This pack is available for children aged 3 to 4 years who have disabilities that impact on or delay the development of their fine motor skills.

Each pack has a copy of Off to the Beach! (an exclusive touch-and-feel book from Child's Play publishers), a board book, a finger puppet for playing along with the story and guidance sheets.
