How to become a councillor
Councillors are elected by the people of Birmingham for a four year term of office.
There are 69 wards within Birmingham represented by 37 single member wards and 32 two member wards, resulting in 101 city councillors. For more information, visit our wards and constituencies page.
Councillors work closely with communities and play an important part in supporting the council to help make a positive difference, every day, to people’s lives. This underpins everything the council does, whether that’s setting priorities, making decisions or delivering services.
Birmingham is experiencing one of its most exciting periods of regeneration and development. Over the next few years the financial situation remains challenging. This means more pressure on councillors to help shape the council for the future, delivering services and finding new ways of working.
