Community Infrastructure Levy draft charging schedule consultation 2022
Following the results of the CIL Consultation in autumn 2022, we are continuing work on the review. We will commission further viability assessments, and when this is concluded, will conduct a further round of public consultation. We will keep our website updated with progress.
Unfortunately, the appendices associated with the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) viability study were not included in the relevant documents. These appendices are now available below and on the Birmingham Be Heard website.
As a result, the deadline for all comments has been extended to 5pm on Monday 26 September 2022.
You can comment in three different ways:
- you can comment electronically
- you can send an email
- you can comment in writing to Hayley Claybrook, Planning and Development, Birmingham City Council, PO Box 28, B1 1TU
All of the papers you need are linked below:
The CIL is a fee that local authorities can set on new developments in their area. This fee makes sure certain types of new development contribute to the infrastructure needed to support that development.
This infrastructure will support the growth aspirations for Birmingham as outlined in the Birmingham Development Plan, which includes proposals for over 50,000 new homes and 100,000 new jobs (adopted on 10 January 2017).
The current CIL rates have been in place since January 2016, and there has been no impact on the supply of development land or the success of developments across the city.
However, there have been changes to sales values and build costs since the evidence for the current CIL was prepared. These changes have led to us taking this opportunity to review our CIL fees.
The documents are also available for inspection, free of charge, during the consultation period at:
