Neighbourhood action co-ordinators
Unlock your community’s potential
The Neighbourhood Action Coordinator Programme (NACs), active since 2022, assigns a dedicated coordinator to specific areas in Birmingham. There are currently 6 NACs working across 10 priority wards.
NACs organise activities which take action on local priorities. Their work aims to improve local areas, through co-ordinating projects with local communities, council services, partners and ward councillors.
NACs have an additional role citywide, fulfilling constitutional responsibilities and facilitating Ward Forum Meetings.

What neighbourhood action co-ordinators do
NACs help residents and local organisations work together in line with the local ward plan.

Activities can include supporting community groups to access funding, develop activities, or coordinate environmental clear-ups.
Neighbourhood action coordinators:
- develop community-led action plans based on local priorities
- empower communities to take action to improve their neighbourhoods
- connect residents with council services
- coordinate efforts across services and communities to benefit local areas
Their work focuses on:
- the local environment (e.g., addressing fly-tipping and litter)
- community safety (e.g., preventing neighbourhood nuisances like vandalism and street drinking)
- quality of life (e.g., improving access to green spaces and fostering local pride)
Watch the video about our Billesley Fire Station mural project in 2023 for an example of the difference that our coordinators make.
