Chinese community health profile
Overview
The Chinese community health profile has identified and summarised the national and local evidence concerning the health, lifestyle behaviours and wider determinants of health that affect the Chinese community.
Although the focus of this report was health inequalities among the Chinese community in Birmingham, the limited available information on health inequalities has resulted in data being used from the UK and internationally, where available.
Community definition
Within this community health profile, the Chinese population was defined by the census 2021 category on ethnic group ‘Asian, Asian British or Asian Welsh: Chinese’. Where data by ethnic group was limited, country of birth data for ‘China’ has been included.
Population size
Population size estimates have been taken from the 2021 census for England and Wales, using data by ethnic group (20 category dataset).
- England and Wales: 445,619 (0.7% of the total population).
- Birmingham: 12,487 (1.1% of the total population).
