Birmingham’s response to the attacks in London
Update 5 June: There will be a national one minute silence tomorrow, Tuesday 6 June at 11am in memory of those who lost their lives in the attacks in London on Saturday evening.
The Lord Mayor Cllr Anne Underwood will be joined by the Lord Lieutenant John Crabtree OBE, the Leader Cllr John Clancy and Deputy Leader Cllr Ian Ward in observing the silence from outside the Council House. All are invited to join them.
The Library of Birmingham will be lit up in red, white and blue tonight after dusk as a mark of respect.
In addition, the Bishop of Birmingham and Birmingham Cathedral will be holding a vigil this evening from 6pm until 6.30pm in the grounds of St Phillips Cathedral, in memory of those who lost their lives in Saturday’s attacks and for all of those affected by the atrocity. The Acting Dean of the Cathedral, Canon Nigel Hand will briefly welcome people but there will be no speeches. The vigil will be a period of quiet reflection for people of all faiths and none; everyone is welcome to attend.

Message from the Lord Mayor of Birmingham following last night’s attack in London:
Lord Mayor Councillor Anne Underwood said today:
“I am saddened and appalled that once again terrorists have struck our country and have killed and injured innocent people in the capital city. Again, on behalf of the city and the people of Birmingham I send deepest condolences to the families and friends of those affected. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.”
Note: The flag over the Council House will be lowered to half-mast tomorrow (Monday 5 June) and the council will await instructions from Government in relation to a national observing of a minutes silence.
