Markets car park re-opened
Following the re-opening of three council car parks on Monday 15 June, Birmingham City Council has now re-opened the Markets multi-storey car park.
Following the re-opening of three council car parks on Monday 15 June, Birmingham City Council has now re-opened the Markets multi-storey car park.
Non-essential retail opened for business this Monday (15 June), followed by the Bull Ring Markets on Tuesday 16 June. The council has been monitoring demand closely and decided to re-open the Markets multi-storey car park today (Thursday 18 June).
The following car parks are now open:
- Snow Hill multi-storey car park (which remained open throughout lockdown)
- Town Hall multi-storey car park (opened Monday 15 June)
- Dudley Street underground car park (opened Monday 15 June)
- Jewellery Quarter multi-storey car park (opened Monday 15 June)
- Markets multi-storey car park (opened Thursday 18 June)
Their use will be kept under close review and a decision on re-opening the remaining multi-storey sites will be made in due course.
The usual car parking charges will apply. The council re-introduced parking charges for all on street Pay and Display parking bays and in all council fee-paying car parks on Monday (15 June).
Social distancing measures will be introduced in lifts and stairwells where possible with appropriate signs and reminders to enable people to stay as safe as possible. The public are also being encouraged to pay for parking using the contactless RingGo service to avoid touching parking machines and using coins.
Free parking for NHS staff, health and social care workers and NHS volunteer responders will be maintained until the Government withdraws this concession. Those eligible for this concession can obtain the required pass from their employer and are encouraged to use car parks rather than on-street spaces which are primarily for short-stay parking.
