Birmingham car park closures
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the use of Birmingham’s multi-storey car parks has rapidly declined.
Birmingham City Council will therefore be closing the following car parks, from the end of the day on Thursday 9 April, until further notice:
- Dudley Street underground car park
- Jewellery Quarter multi-storey car park
- Markets multi-storey car park
- Millennium Point multi-storey car park
- Paradise Circus multi-storey car park
- Pershore Street multi-storey car park
- Town Hall multi-storey car park
- Victoria Road (Sutton Coldfield) multi-storey car park
Councillor Waseem Zaffar MBE, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment said: “We have been closely monitoring the impact of COVID-19 on traffic flows and have now taken the decision to close all of our multi-storey car parks, except Snow Hill.
“These car parks have had little to no usage since new government guidelines on staying home were issued on Monday 23 March. The most sensible option at this time is to close the car parks until further notice, to avoid incurring unnecessary costs and to reduce environmental impact.”
To support those who are still travelling to work in the city centre, and are unable to work from home, the Snow Hill multi-storey car park will remain open, together with all of Birmingham City Council’s surface car parks and on-street pay and display bays.
The council have also suspended pay and display fees for both on and off-street parking, to provide key workers with more flexibility over where they park during the pandemic. However, they advised the public that Civil Enforcement Officers would still be in operation but focusing on dangerous and obstructive parking to maintain road safety and ensure essential supplies and services can get through.
