Bin crew brings Christmas cheer for Kitts Green family
A three-year-old Kitts Green girl who wants to become a refuse collector when she grows up received a special Christmas treat from her local bin crew today (December 16).
After handing the Birmingham City Council crew a Christmas card of her own and chocolates last week, the team aboard the local bin wagon were so grateful for the show of support for their work that they handed Tia Holly Stanford-Smith a special festive gift in return when visiting her street this morning.
They also provided Tia’s five-year-old sister Taylor-Brooke with a present too.
Their mum Linzi Lee Stanford, said: “I didn’t know what, if anything, would happen when I messaged the council on Facebook to tell them about how obsessed Tia is with bin trucks.
“She gets really excited when they come along our street every week, so I asked how we could go about presenting the workers with a card.
“The bin collectors were great and Tia spent all day at nursery school telling the other children and teachers about what she had done.
“So when they came back today with a present for her and her sister it was amazing. They were so nice, letting us take pictures and have the children sit in the truck. They went the extra mile and will be something we never forget.
“Thank you to everyone who made this happen.”
Cllr John O’Shea, Cabinet Member for Street Scene and Parks, said: “I know the bin crew members were moved by the incredibly kind gesture of a Christmas card and gift from Tia. It shows how much our hardworking crews are valued and appreciated by residents. They were really keen to show their gratitude and Tia’s response to her present and tour of the bin wagon made their Christmas just as much as it clearly did for her.”
