Darren Share, Assistant Director for Street Scene at Birmingham City Council, said: “This Christmas we wanted to ensure we could deliver a reliable collection service that can cope with the additional waste presented during this festive period.
“We have therefore we have developed plans that should ensure that the city’s residents get the most efficient service possible during this time.”
As is usual during the festive period, a reasonable amount of side waste (2-3 sacks) will be picked up as part of the first post-Christmas household waste collection. On recycling bin day, any excess cardboard should be securely bundled with string and presented next to the bin for collection.
For those who do not wish to wait, the city’s network of five Household Recycling Centres will be open every day across the festive period, apart from Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Full details of opening hours and links to the “view the queue” webcams are available on the council website.
If there is any adverse weather that affects collections on any day over Christmas and New Year, residents should take their bins back onto their properties and present them on the next scheduled collection day.
