Waste management modernisation update - 17 September 2018
The following is a statement on the latest news relating to the modernisation of Birmingham’s waste management service:
Cllr Majid Mahmood, Cabinet Member for Clean Streets, Waste and Recycling, said:
“Throughout the summer, we have been working in close partnership with our Trades Union colleagues to implement the agreement made in 2017. This agreement will lead to a more modern, effective and efficient waste collection service in Birmingham and ensure that we will collectively deliver on the number one priority for Birmingham’s residents and businesses – clean streets”
“During the week commencing 17 September, our hardworking and dedicated crews will start working in a different way with a stronger emphasis on improving recycling rates and benefitting our environment. There will be no changes to collection days for residents, but a citywide programme of change and modernisation like this will understandably require some time to bed in.”
“It must be remembered that even though we need to modernise our service through this new operating model, we are still consistently collecting 99.98 per cent of bins from 360,000 addresses every week – a great achievement from our dedicated workforce.”
