Response to CQC report into Birmingham health and social care
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) today published its local system review into how local health and social care systems work together in Birmingham.
In response to the report Councillor Paulette Hamilton, chair of Birmingham's health and wellbeing board, said:
“I welcome this report which rightly acknowledges Birmingham’s history of poor integration between local authority and health services.
“However, it is important to point out that the areas for improvement detailed in the report are known to us and prior to the inspection we commissioned a system-wide review of health and social care in Birmingham which came to broadly the same conclusions.
“This has resulted in a number of significant steps already in place to address the CQC areas for improvement, for example with better partnership working seeing an improvement to delayed transfers of care.
“While there is no quick fix, we know where we are and what needs to be done and together – local authority, health and other partners – we are working hard to address these problems. In fact, I’m pleased to see the report has highlighted the ‘significant step forward’ that our early stages of integration show.
“We will now jointly present a detailed action plan to the Department of Health to ensure sustainable improvements are made and our citizens get the help and care they deserve.”
