It's the Big Birmingham Bikes giveaway
2,000 bright orange bikes have been given away as part of the wider Birmingham Cycle Revolution
Today saw the latest tranche of free bikes being handed out in the Big Birmingham Bikes giveaway. Cllr Stewart Stacey handed over two of the 2,000 bikes being given out this spring as part of the wider Birmingham Cycle Revolution, the project which has seen cycle paths upgraded as well as activities and training schemes launched, and aims to greatly cycling in Birmingham.
Those taking on a bike are required to update the scheme’s organisers on their usage, either via a smart phone app or by attending regular activities. They should be using them at least every week.
Councillor Stewart Stacey, cabinet member for transport and roads, said: “The Big Birmingham Bikes scheme has provided thousands of free bikes to people in the most deprived areas of the city, opening up employment opportunities to people who might otherwise have had no alternative means of transport.
“Cycling is an affordable and sustainable form of transport. We want to open up previously inaccessible locations and give people the freedom to move around their city, at the same time helping Birmingham to reach its potential as a true cycling destination.”
