Planned placement moves for SEND

The social worker must consider for any planned placement move to another local authority, whether that local authority has a ‘like for like’ SEND provision.

If it does not, further placement planning should be considered to avoid a forced disruption in education.

If a move is being made because of an emergency placement, the social worker must seek agreement from Complex Care in order to make sure that placement and education needs are satisfactorily met.

Transition Personal Education Plan (PEP)

Before a move, where possible, a transition PEP should be completed.

The social worker should obtain the views of the child or young person and record them on the PEP.

The information is then ready to update the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) regarding current paperwork and choice of school.

The social worker must inform Birmingham Virtual School and discuss with the placement officer.
