Allergies

Evidence suggests that the best way to prevent your baby from developing a food allergy is to introduce them to the foods most likely to cause an allergy. These are:

  • cow's milk
  • egg
  • fish
  • peanuts and other nuts
  • sesame
  • shellfish
  • soy
  • wheat

You should do this when your baby starts solid food.

If you have a family history of an allergy, you should introduce those foods one at a time, in small amounts.

If you are concerned, you may want to introduce these foods when someone else is with you.

The NHS has information on how to tell if your child has a food allergy.
