What it means to be a Shared Lives carer
- Sharing life can bring you laughter, love and a new paid opportunity in your own home.
- Your enthusiasm, motivation and commitment are more important than any formal caring experience or qualifications.
- We will help match you with someone you enjoy being with, and support you every step of the way.
- People living in shared lives may also take part in other activities and support during the day that helps them live a fulfilling life.
I just wanted to do something which opened people’s horizons." Sharisse, Shared Lives carer
We will also pay you a fee of between £443 and £538 per week (if someone moves in with you) which will in turn enable you to make a positive difference to someone’s life.
As a Shared Lives carer, you are self-employed, so that you can receive tax benefits and get on with the job of living. Your scheme worker can help you set up and if you choose to become a member, our UK membership network, Shared Lives Plus, can support you with advice about the legal and tax arrangements – you will also receive many discounts and a whole community of Shared Lives carers if you join.
We will give you training, support, guidance and training to help you with your new role and keep you up to date with best practice.
You will have a dedicated scheme worker to talk through anything you are not sure about and celebrate your successes.
Shared Lives is consistently rated top of social care by the Care Quality Commission.
You will be joining the UK’s best kind of social care – something to be really proud of.
