Care Quality Commission assessment
Birmingham Adult Social Care Directorate was assessed by our regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC) over the summer of 2023. This included an onsite element in August 2023.
We were awarded a “Good” rating. Full details of the assessment and its findings can be found on the CQC’s website.
This is a provisional rating, as the assessment was part of a pilot assessment. Birmingham Adult Social Care Directorate was chosen by the CQC as one of five social care authorities in England to pilot the new CQC Assessment Framework before it was rolled out to all local authorities delivering adult social care services over the next two years.
The pilot helped the CQC develop their approach to assessing adult social care services and test their methodology.
The full assessment report details many areas of strength for the directorate. There are some areas of weakness that have been identified. These matched our own understanding for areas of improvement and plans are in place to address these areas.
