Ethnicity and physical activity project
As part of our work to increase physical activity in Birmingham we have collaborated with the Global Healthy Cities Partnership to initiate a short social marketing project to focus on increasing physical activity through walking and cycling in South Asian and African and Caribbean Communities in ten wards of the city.
The ten focused wards for the intervention are:
- Alum Rock
- Aston
- Birchfield
- Bordesley Green
- Handsworth
- Holyhead
- Lozells
- Small Heath
- Sparkbrook and Balsall Heath East
- Sparkhill
These wards were chosen because of the higher diversity of the communities and the lower levels of physical activity.
Hawkmoth Consulting were awarded the contract to develop the social marketing campaign through an open tender process and they are currently evolving an exciting new project for this called ‘Tola Time’.
The campaign will be externally evaluated and a provider for the evaluation is currently being appointed.
This work is overseen by the Creating an Active City sub-group of the Health and Wellbeing Board and managed by the Places Team.
We also have a number of weight management support programmes across Birmingham. Further information is on our weight management services webpage.
