COVID-19 Symptoms

The main symptoms of COVID-19 are:

  • A high temperature
  • A new, continuous cough
  • A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

If you have COVID-19 symptoms you should try to stay at home and avoid contact with others to help reduce spread of the virus.

You may be eligible for free COVID-19 testing – visit the NHS website for more information.

How to look after yourself at home with COVID-19 symptoms

Follow NHS guidance on looking after yourself at home if you have COVID-19. This includes, getting lots of rest, drinking plenty of water, and taking paracetamol or ibuprofen if you feel uncomfortable.

What to do if symptoms get worse

It is important to get medical help if your symptoms get worse and you are not sure what to do.

You can use the NHS 111 online COVID-19 online service.

If you cannot get help online, phone 111.

If your symptoms have lasted for 12 weeks or more, you may be experiencing long COVID.

Contact your GP if you are worried about symptoms 4 or more weeks after having COVID-19.
