Grants programme
The council operates a community grants programme to support the development of community projects.
This includes activities and services, which can support Syrian refugees and the scheme’s aims, outcomes and priorities.
The funding is available to groups and organisations who are:
- working directly with Syrian refugees,
- doing things to improve community cohesion in areas where Syrian refugees are being accommodated, or
- improving cultural awareness of refugees amongst front-line services.
Some examples of the activities and services funded include
- Weekly English classes for our families along with a family ESOL programme during the school holidays
- Access to the FLASH Academy ESOL app for Syrian school pupils
- Conversation and Song café bringing together the women from the Syrian Community
- Bike project donated bikes to the families along with mentoring, cycle training whilst providing fun and social interaction
- A bespoke young people’s training programme delivered by the Princes Trust
- A family learning programme made up of a variety of different courses including driving theory, digital skills, health and wellbeing
- Family therapy and counselling.
