General housing support and advice
General housing support
Housing support is available to residents in Birmingham from the council and other organisations. Types of support include:
Floating support
Floating support is support from a specialist worker who offers help on a range of different issues. They can help you to find a home or support you to stay in your current home.
They may help you with issues such as:
- money advice
- accessing schools
- registering with a GP
- receiving benefits
- making a claim
The floating support workers may provide specialist support to meet certain needs.
Supported housing
This is housing which may only be available for a few months, or much longer depending on the scheme. It will come with support like that provided by floating support workers.
This will often include support to find and move into permanent housing.
Refuge housing
This is housing for people fleeing domestic abuse. Support from staff with experience of working with victims of domestic abuse will be available.
Residents must ensure that they do not share the location of their refuge house.
