Attendance allowances for medical practitioners
If you’re a medical practitioner and would like to claim an attendance allowance, speak to someone in the Court Office before you leave the Court.
What allowances can medical practitioners claim?
With the exception of salaried NHS doctors, if you’re a medical practitioner who would have otherwise been at work, you can claim back the following allowances:
- If no-one steps in to take care of their practice while they’re at the inquest
- If someone steps in to take care of their practice while they’re at the inquest

Salaried NHS doctors
Salaried NHS doctors cannot claim additional fees when they attend an inquest as part of their working day.
If a salaried NHS doctor attends an inquiry to give evidence on a day when they wouldn’t usually be working, they can only claim travel expenses.
