If you think your rates are wrong
We do not decide your rateable value. The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) decides this.
You should tell the VOA if you:
- think your rateable value is too high
- need to report changes to your property – for example, floor size or parking
What happens next
If the VOA decides to change your rateable value, they’ll let us know and we’ll issue a revised bill.
If the change is backdated and this means you’ve overpaid, we’ll refund the difference. We’ll also pay you interest on this amount.
You must continue to pay your business rates as normal until they’ve made a decision. If you do not pay your business rates whilst you are appealing your rateable value, we may take enforcement action against you.
If we are sure that the VOA will reduce the rateable value of your property, we may allow you to pay at a reduced rate until they make their decision. If you believe this will happen with your property, contact us.
