About Overview and scrutiny
Overview and scrutiny committees ensure that decision makers within the council are held accountable. They help in strategic policy development, drive improvement in public services, and ensure that the voice of the public is heard.
There are seven overview and scrutiny committees in Birmingham, which are structured to cover every aspect of the city council’s work. They ensure cabinet members are accountable for the decisions they make, and for the services being delivered across the city. The Health and Adult Social Care, Overview and Scrutiny Committee also oversees health issues and looks at the work of the NHS in Birmingham and across the West Midlands.
