City-wide EV charging network
Priority areas for fast and rapid hub charge point deployment has been identified based on the density of:
- Traffic flow on local roads to account for en-route charging
- Amenities for destination charging
- Housing with a reliance on on-street parking
- Taxi ranks, as a high mileage user group
The below map shows areas of high projected demand and therefore the highest priority areas for deploying fast and rapid charging infrastructure. Residential area charge points to enable overnight charging will be prioritised across the city where there is little or no off-street parking.
Areas of low grid capacity coupled with limited or no off-street parking will be prioritised for innovative on-street charging solutions.
On-street charging
We have partnered with Shell Recharge to provide Electric Vehicle (EV) charge points across Birmingham, which will help make it easier for our residents to make the switch to EV ownership.
This initial rollout of EV charge points will be installed onto existing lampposts on residential streets. We are prioritising the parts of the city where residents do not have the option of home charging.

Request an EV charger near your home
If you are unable to locate an EV charge point near your home, you can submit a request for your location to be assessed to see if it is suitable.
The submission of the request does not guarantee an EV charge point will be installed.
