Waste is hazardous if it is harmful to humans or the environment.
Contact us immediately if you find hazardous or toxic waste in a public place.

Tell us:
- where the waste is
- what the waste is, if you know
Hazardous waste includes:
- asbestos
- chemicals, for example, brake fluid or print toner
- batteries
- solvents
- pesticides
- oils (except edible ones), for example, car oil
- equipment containing ozone depleting substances, for example, fridges
Hypodermic needles
We have a service to remove hypodermic needles.
Hazardous waste in or on commercial premises
If you find hazardous or toxic waste in or on commercial premises, phone the Environment Agency on 0870 850 6506.
Hazardous household waste
Hazardous household waste includes things such as:
- paint
- paraffin
- fence treatment
- garden chemicals
- adhesives
You can take small amounts (up to six 2.5 litre containers) to your local household recycling centre. They must be stored in containers, and you must be able to transport them safely.
