- Found guilty in absence of 11 offences relating to conditions found at Universal Food Stores, 375-377 Soho Road, Handsworth Wood, Birmingham. There were mouse droppings on shelving and floors throughout the premises. The premises was not kept clean or well maintained, the rear yard storing food produce and the walk-in chiller in the rear yard were dirty. Rat droppings were present in the outside yard and gnawed waste food was present. There were holes and gaps in the ceiling, loose plaster around electric sockets and gaps in the wall near the floor/wall junction which could permit access to pests. There were no permanent procedures implemented based on HACCP. Food items were on display for sale past their use by dates.
