Urban Centres Framework
- Description
-
The Urban Centres Framework provides the strategy to support urban centres to transform into diverse, well-connected and unique hubs at the heart of local communities. Following four months of public consultation from November 2018 to March 2019, the framework was adopted by cabinet on 21 January 2020.
The Framework covers 10 initial centres:
Sutton Coldfield
Perry Barr
Bordesley Green
Coventry Road – Small Heath
Stechford
Meadway
Erdington
Northfield
Stirchley
Alum Rock Road
The overall strategy is based around three core themes: increased activity, improved connectivity and enhanced local identity. These core themes are then applied to each centre, with a focus on Big Moves that will act as catalysts for change. The document is not a statutory plan, but the purpose of the framework is to guide investment and unite stakeholders behind a shared vision.
An online toolkit has been developed to sit alongside the framework and will provide information and guidance to communities and stakeholders on how they can facilitate transformation in their local centres. The toolkit can be applied to all centres regardless of size or their inclusion in the framework, with the aim to empower stakeholders to play a more active role and take some ownership of the future of their local centres. - Download related file(s)
