New York international airport

New york international airport postcard

Now known as JFK Airport, after former President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. It was originally called “Idlewild” in the early 1940s after a nearby golf course.

In 1948 it became New York International and after Kennedy’s assassination, it changed to John F Kennedy International in December 1963.

It’s the busiest airport in the USA. The Civil Aeronautics Administration Tower can be seen in the background.

The unknown author of the postcard writes:
"This airport gets more beautiful each time I come, it must be the most elegant in the world. But it's so foggy this morning you can hardly see the end of the runway. But when we get above the clouds, we might have some sun. We're cruising at 16,000 feet and the pilot has just announced 11 below zero in Milwaukee. My boots were stolen at the N Y Airport. "
