Punch and Judy (1875)
-
The central family in the show are the characters of Punch, Judy and the Baby. Originally called Joan, Punch's wife's name changed to Judy in the early 18th century. At the time, a 'Judy' was slang for a tramp's woman. The Baby first appears in the 19th century versions of the show.
