The man standing to the right of the booth in the picture is the money collector or bottler, whose job it was to announce the show and collect payment from the crowd.
The distinctive, squeaking voice of Punch is obtained by the 'Professor' speaking through a tin whistle called a swatchel or swazzle placed in their mouth.
