Conductor Sir Henry Joseph Wood (1869 to 1944) was the founder of the annual promenade concerts, more commonly known as The Proms.
Dorothy Howell's first large-scale orchestral work, 'Lamia' was conducted by Wood at the Proms of 1919 to great critical acclaim.
