1. Birmingham City Council - PURE Expo - Skills and Jobs Fair 2 December 2024 (information for all Birmingham Providers)

The PURE Project supports people facing barriers to securing work. The project is managed by Birmingham City Council and funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and supports people with a wide range of complex barriers including learning disabilities and difficulties, mental health difficulties, physical and sensory disabilities and people who are homeless or vulnerably housed.

Join 70+ employers, training and skills providers to reach a fantastic audience and share your vacancies or training opportunities or come along and find out more about how your organisation can support job seekers and people looking to take their next step. Exhibiting and attendance at the event are free.

There’s also an opportunity to join 200+ leaders from across Birmingham and beyond by signing up to The Pledge for Birmingham, which is a forum for stakeholders to learn, share examples of good practice, and take positive steps towards inclusion together.

2. Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) - The New Quality Assured Care Learning Service (information for all providers)

A new service has been launched to review the quality of individual courses and qualifications provided by training providers in the Adult Social Care sector.

This service is funded by the Department of Health and Social Care and delivered by Skills for Care (see link below).

It will ensure that training and development is of good quality, easily accessible and meets the needs of the workforce and users of care services. This includes courses funded through the Learning and Development Support Scheme (See Below)

3. Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) - What does the future hold for digitising social care (information for all providers)

The coming years represent a valuable opportunity for social care. The adoption of technology and digital tools, can enhance the way we support individuals as a sector. By focussing on building effective systems and eliminating barriers at the national level, local care providers, Local Authorities, and Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) can be empowered to innovate and modernise. This approach will ultimately lead to improved support for people that draw on care and support. 4. REMINDER NHS Birmingham and Solihull Free End of Life Resource Platform launched (information for Birmingham and Solihull Care Homes)

The Birmingham and Solihull End of Life Care Toolkit is aimed at staff in any setting who want to improve their knowledge and skills in delivering End of Life Care. It has been created by End-of-Life Care professionals from Birmingham and Solihull, who are dedicated to sharing the most current and relevant information with clinical teams and the public.

The website compiles knowledge and resources from communities, hospices, and hospitals, offering clear and reliable guidance on palliative and end-of-life care.  Please use the link below for access to the website and see attached flyers for reference.

6. REMINDER Birmingham and Solihull Nurses and Clinical Leads Network for Nurses working in Social Care virtual network meeting – Tuesday, 26 November 2024 - 2.00pm to 4.30pm - (information for care homes with nursing in Birmingham and Solihull)

Birmingham and Solihull Nurses and Clinical Leads Network for Nurses working in Social Care would like to invite registered nurses to the next virtual network meeting for Tuesday, 26 November 2024, 2.00pm to 4.30pm

The meeting agenda will include relevant clinical nursing issues:

  • Update from Director of Social Care Nursing
  • Birmingham Hospice - Palliative Care
  • Manager perspective of an ICB assessment
  • Update from the Social Care Advisory Board

The Alzheimer’s Society are offering an informal get together for younger people affected by dementia and an opportunity to make friends, share experiences, and to get information, advice and support. There are various dates throughout September to December 2024 held at Edgbaston Community Centre.

Last two dates:

10 December 2:30pm – 4:30pm

10. LIVE WEBINAR – West Midlands-Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) and West Midlands Employers - International Recruitment: The rollout of e-Visas and what they mean for care providers Thursday, 5 December 2024 (information for all providers)

WM-ADASS and West Midlands Employers are working in partnership and will be holding a live legal webinar, which will focus on preparing providers for the rollout of e-Visas.

Edward O’Brien, Senior Associate, at Law Firm Lester Aldridge will discuss the impact on evidencing Right to Work and provide a general overview of Right to Work responsibilities.

There will be the opportunity to ask questions at the end.
