World Social Work Day 2021
Cllrs Kate Booth and Paulette Hamilton say a big thank you to all our social workers who help the people of Birmingham every day.
On World Social Work Day we applaud and celebrate the significant role that our incredible social workers play in the lives of some of our most vulnerable citizens and families, both our children and adults.
They do a phenomenal job, most of it away from the public gaze keeping our citizens safe. They change people’s lives for the better and speak for people who don’t have a voice.
Here in Birmingham we have some fantastic social workers, doing incredible work, and we applaud them, especially in such a challenging year, where they have been more innovative than ever as they have ensured our citizens are safe and well.
Our social work happens in family front rooms and classrooms, and in hubs and offices. The families we work with are our partners. We all want the same thing – for vulnerable adults and children to be loved, safe, thriving and doing well.
World Social Work Day is a great opportunity to reflect on why we do social work. Promoting dignity, independence and social justice for people is a sound goal and a solid message for the year ahead.
So thank you for all your hard work and do what you do best – the people that depend on you are so grateful because you change and improve their lives for the better.
