Thank you for being brilliant Birmingham
The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr Mohammed Azim, thanks communities and key workers across the city for playing their part in the fight against coronavirus.
In these unprecedented and unsettling times, I – like I’m sure we all are – am taking great comfort in seeing how communities across the city are helping and supporting each other.
The way in which the people of Birmingham and agencies across the city have responded to this coronavirus pandemic – and the impact it is having on all of our lives – is amazing. There is much love in this city, which is great to see in such challenging times.
Like 1.5m people across the country I am currently shielding – which means I must stay at home – so I’m unable to personally thank those who are supporting their neighbours and communities for all their efforts.
Today – which is World Health Day – Her Majesty the Queen has thanked health workers who are helping to protect us and fight coronavirus around the world for their ‘selfless commitment’. I too heartily echo those sentiments.
I too want to take this opportunity to say thank-you to the city’s unsung heroes who are doing what they can, and often beyond the call of duty, to help others without expectation of praise or reward.
Firstly all the dedicated doctors, nurses, and carers of all kinds, who are on the frontline every day, looking after our loved ones and putting themselves in front of this awful virus every day. I thank you all for all that you do.
There are so many others – our wonderful emergency services, teachers, retail staff, transport workers, and charity workers and volunteers going above and beyond to help keep life going in these uncertain times. I thank you all.
As I am unable to welcome guests to the Council House to share such thanks, I will be writing to them instead – and if you wish to nominate an individual or community group – please email me at lord.mayor@birmingham.gov.uk
Thanks to you all for showing what a caring, friendly city Birmingham is - you are brilliant.
Take care and stay safe.
